Rhythmic Gymnastics is a culmination of ballet and modern dance, flexibility and musical interpretation. Gymnasts perform floor routines with five hand held apparatus – hoop, ball, ribbon, rope and clubs.
Gymnasts perform individually and as a group at a number of competitions throughout the year. Wentworth College competes at the Auckland Secondary Schools Championships, New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships and AIMS Games, and also have the opportunity to compete overseas.
Training is run by current and former NZ gymnasts, coaches and judges, and includes flexibility and conditioning work, as well as time spent on leaps, pirouettes and apparatus handling.
