Sport at Wentworth

At Wentworth, sport is an important part of school life. It supports students’ physical wellbeing, confidence, teamwork, and leadership development.

We offer a broad and inclusive programme that caters to all abilities — from students participating for enjoyment and fitness, to those competing at a higher level. Opportunities are progressive, enabling students to develop skills and commitment from Primary through to College.

Team Sports

Students have the opportunity to represent Wentworth in a range of team sports including rowing, rugby, netball, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, water polo, and cricket. Teams compete in local and regional competitions, supported by experienced staff and coaches.

Individual Sports

Students can also pursue individual sports such as swimming, athletics, tennis, badminton, golf, sailing, and cross country. These opportunities encourage personal goal-setting, resilience, and individual achievement.

Aquatic Programme

Aquatic activities form an important part of the Wentworth programme and are delivered through two distinct experiences.

Junior Swimming offers a two-week swimming programme for Year 1 - 2 students helping teach valuable water skills including swimming lessons, lifejacket usage, deep water confidence and boating experiences.

Swimming Sports are held at a local pool for students in Years 5–13, offering both competitive and participation-based events. These events focus on personal challenge, skill development, and inclusive involvement in a structured and well-supervised environment.

Water Sports Day, offered to students in Years 7–10, takes place at local beaches and makes full use of nearby marine facilities. The day is designed around participation and teamwork rather than competition, with students taking part in paddle boarding, kayaking, and sailing. This experience allows students to develop water confidence, practical skills, and an appreciation of the local coastal environment.

House Sport and School Events

House activities play a central role in fostering school spirit, inclusion, and connection across year levels. Alongside traditional sporting events such as Athletics Day, Swimming Sports and Cross Country, students also participate in Mathex, which encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and academic challenge in a house-based format.

These events provide opportunities for all students to contribute, celebrate strengths beyond sport alone, and take pride in their House. House events reinforce Wentworth’s values while promoting healthy competition and a strong sense of belonging.

Physical Education

Physical Education complements the co-curricular programme by developing fundamental movement skills, fitness, and confidence. Lessons are designed to support lifelong participation in physical activity and overall wellbeing.
