School Production

We are very inspired by the talent of many of our students. Wentworth has established a reputation for the standard of our school productions.

We make use of our College hall which gives us the opportunity to build and paint sets, develop our own lighting plan and sound effects, and to rehearse on-site.

Our plays have ranged from the traditional: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “The Devil’s Disciple”, “The Importance of Being Earnest” to the modern: “Revenge of the Amazons” and “Wheeler’s Luck”.

Students are always fully involved in the whole process from selecting the script to auditioning actors; designing, building and painting sets, designing and operating the lighting, selecting props and costumes, designing the make-up, selecting and operating the sound effects and, eventually directing, rehearsing and performing. Along with that, of course, comes advertising, writing the programme and running the Front of House.

Clearly the school production provides a large number of opportunities for students to develop and follow a range of skills and activities. Every year there have been students who have never performed on stage before but have decided to put themselves forward for a role. In every case, these new actors have acquitted themselves with distinction. And every year a new star is born; usually an actor whose comic potential has been hidden until given the chance to shine.
