Students attend APO concert

In the first week of Term 2, a small group of students travelled to Auckland City to hear the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra play a range of pieces from Vivaldi to Bernstein! As the Eras of Music were introduced, the orchestra grew in size and complexity, finishing with a piece by a modern, young New Zealand composer (which was a crowd favourite). It was wonderful to enjoy the talents of Auckland’s Orchestra in residence.

Year 7 Ephemeral Art

In Term 1, Year 7 students looked at ephemeral art and created sculptures at the beach which, as well as being a lot of fun, also reflected their knowledge of natural and environmental materials and art elements.

Students attend the Opera!

In March, a small group of senior students attended the New Zealand Opera’s performance of ‘Candide’ at the Auckland Town Hall. The visual spectacle of sumptuous costumes with dramatic lighting and set proved to be the perfect backdrop for the talent of the NZ Opera society. Gorgeous solos and duos filled the air from Coloratura Soprano to Tenor characters – and the whole performance ended with the Chorus, soloists and Orchestra en masse in the triumphant happy ending!
