Windmills!
The weather played right into our hands (literally) by providing an extremely windy day – the perfect opportunity to investigate how wind works as a Force.

Wow! What creative students we have here at Wentworth Primary School.
In teams they were to create a flower inspired costume using only paper, sellotape and string. The models then had to walk around two courts to demonstrate the robust and sturdy nature of the costumes, and to show off their exquisite aesthetic designs!
We are learning how to measure things using a ruler. Can you see all the classroom items we have been measuring??
Hi parents,
Now that we’re nearly at the end of Term 3, let me share with you a few highlights:
Science
We finished up our investigations of magnets, by making our own compasses from corks and needles. We can now attest that we’re going North when we exit through the classroom door!
Daniel now knows where North is, and is ready to go question Santa about a gift he never received.
These guys are giddy with excitement at their discoveries. Or corks in water looking like floating poops. Probably the latter.
Lately, we’ve been looking at the human skeleton. Below you’ll see photos of us comparing the measurements of our major bones.
“My vertebrae are more impressive than yours”
Dr Chen, prepares his patient for a lobotomy
Dylan, looking like he has all the makings of an excellent tailor.
Maths
Recently, we’ve had a focus on geometry: naming, drawing, and constructing three dimensional shapes.
Aston and Harper show that it’s not just girls that are known for their delicate craftsmanship.
Tiger juggles two cubes. Coming up: he swallows three tetrahedrons that are on fire.
Computational Thinking
The student’s have learnt a significant amount of computer skills this term, including how to use email, and how to use the Google suite (Google docs, Google Slides etc) to produce work.
Jack checks the status of his financial stocks, and decides whether to invest in bitcoin.
Literacy
Persuasive Writing and Speeches
We’ve had a focus this term on learning the features of effective persuasive writing and speaking. We’ve recently been practicing our oral language skills by sharing a page from a novel. We’re now in the process of writing our own speeches.
Konstantin decides that having to hold the book is for sissies
Grandpa Rensen enthralls us all with tales from long ago.
Storybooks
We’ve added another illustrated narrative to our storybooks this term.
Dylan’s latest is a war between robots and humans.
Luke’s latest is the story of a war between flies and spiders.
War! – what is it good for? Stories, if nothing else.
Art
In Art, we’ve had a focus on learning to draw and colour landscapes.
Poppy finishes giving her tree a “perm”.
Chelsea’s left hand takes a holiday, while her right hand is busy at work.
Production Rehearsal
As you would have heard, we have our major production coming up at the end of term. We’ve been busy learning and rehearsing all the songs and dances
At Wentworth we pride ourselves on students being able to know where their knees and ears are.
.
We have been having a wonderfully dramatic time studying the tragedy of “the Scottish Play.”
Video Needed
As always, the school cross-country event is a major fixture in the Wentworth Primary calendar. Our children have been in training – working on stamina, technique and strategy.
All our students completed the gruelling course with the results as follows:
1st place: Ken and Milla
2nd place: Rory and Annie
3rd place: Leo and Katie
Congratulations to all our competitors – you all did a fantastic job!
At the Interschools Cross-Country Event, Shakespear Park…
She showed us the Hulusi – a Chinese instrument, also known as the Cucurbit Flute.
The warm-up
On your marks… Get set… Go!
All finished! Well done Karearea!
We have been on a self discovery journey learning about fractions using materials. We are finding out what fractions are and how they work.
Firstly we wrote what we knew about fractions.
Then we played with fraction blocks to see what we could discover.
Below is us using the blocks to discover what they are. We found out they have a bottom number and top number. The bottom number tells us how many pieces the whole is cut into and the top number tells us how many of those we have. We also found out they get smaller in size even though the bottom number gets bigger.
We then looked at making equivalent fractions using the blocks. We know that the blocks have to fit under each other exactly for them to be equivalent. It’s fun and interesting finding out which fractions are equivalent. Aren’t we good at working fairly as a group, taking turns??
With information gathered from drawing around the fraction blocks to discover equivalent fractions, we began to look at how we could use our knowledge of multiplication to work out equivalent fractions.
