On Tuesday we were the luckiest class in the land because our school was allowed to go to Kelly Tarlton’s
AND
we had the entire aquarium to OURSELVES!
We certainly made the most of it! We saw sea horses, touched starfish and we even made our own colourful fish ‘come to life’ on screen!
It was a wonderful day and it felt lovely to be able to go out and about again as it was the first day of Covid Alert Level 1.
Thank you to all of our parents for your excellent support. We couldn’t do it without you!
We were SO excited to visit the Kelly Tarlton Aquarium this week. It was lovely that we were able to have the whole place to ourselves. We enjoyed exploring all of the different areas. We went through the tunnel, where we saw sharks, fish and stingrays. We also spotted pufferfish, jellyfish and seahorses. We explored the arctic area, where we saw different penguins. We even got to hold startfish and ‘rescue’ sea turtles. It was a wonderful day! Thank you to the parents who came along with us on this lovely day.
Here are a few snapshots of us in action.
In Science we observed flowers and dissected them to see the different parts.
Here we are engrossed in our reading. We love to add new words that we come across into our word books, so that we can use them in our own writing.
In Term 1, we welcomed our lovely Grandparents along to visit the school and our classrooms. We had lots of fun! We sang for the Grandparents as a whole school, then went to our classrooms, where we played a variety of games, both old and new.
During Term 1, Years 5 and 6 participated in a cycle safety programme. Children enjoyed the opportunity to bring their own bikes to school and were taught how to check that their bikes and helmets are safe to use. After this, they enjoyed cycling and playing games whilst riding. Check out a few pictures below:
Year 5 had an exciting day on March 10th. We enjoyed spending time in the college with our visitor who taught us all about the history of chess, the names of each piece and how to play the game. We even had an opportunity to play a few games:
Thank you to all of the wonderful families who came on our outing the the Beach Picnic at Shakespear Park with us in February.
All of the children from the whole school had an absolutely wonderful time. Thank you to those parents who helped out on the day.
On 26th February, Year 5 and 6 students attended Swim Sports at Northern Arena. Here, they competed in various races. It was fantastic to witness the confidence and competitiveness of the students. Below are a few snaps of the day.
We had a great time at Kelly Tarltons today, seeing all sorts of weird and wonderful sea creatures. We are the first students to visit since lockdown. No wonder the sharks were happy to see us!
Our wonderful Kiwi class are learning to introduce themselves in Maori. We are learning a Pepeha to share a little information about who we are and the connection we feel to our local area. We have even painted and drawn our sea, mountain and self-portrait to accompany our pepeha.
We are looking forward to showing you the finished artwork!
Our Kiwi class can say the following in Te Reo Maori:-
Kia Ora.
Ko (their name) toku ingoa. My name is ………….

Ko Wentworth Primary toku kura. My school is Wentworth Primary.
This week we have been working on our number bonds to 10 and subtraction knowledge. The children have used solid objects, number lines and Numicon to respond to written word problems and number sentences/ calculations. The children enjoy using the Numicon as it provides a visual representation and enables them to generate their own number sentences.
